RCMP worked with the STARS air ambulance service, who attended and confirmed the female’s location, but were unable to land. Officers also worked with conservation officers to get advice on the terrain and the location. Due to the difficulty in accessing the location of the hiker, RCMP were able to deploy a smaller helicopter at approximately 9:30 am on Aug. 8, 2023.

On the helicopter was the flight crew and an RCMP officer with experience in the specific terrain from his work fighting wildfires and helicopter operations.

The rescue attempt was successful, and the female was brought to Lac du Bonnet, where her care was taken over by emergency medical services.

This press release was prepared and distributed by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police.
