European Rotors — The VTOL Show and Safety Conference — is further expanding its network. Recently announced cooperation with the Vertical Flight Society (VFS) is a major milestone as it will add additional high-level technical and scientific sessions on vertical flight technology to the conference program of the new show.

VFS will support the new show format for the rotorcraft industry, which will take place in Cologne, Germany, Nov. 16-18, 2021. It is on course to provide the industry with the long-awaited opportunity to meet in person again.

VFS organizes the Annual Forum and Technology Display in North America, the world’s largest and longest-running internationally recognized technical event on vertical flight technology. This year, the 77th Annual Forum takes place May 10-14. The five-day virtual event will include more than 225 papers on every discipline from acoustics to unmanned aircraft systems (UAS), as well as invited presentations and discussions by more than 50 leaders in industry and government on the latest developments in helicopters, advanced rotorcraft and other types of VTOL aircraft.

As part of the conference program of European Rotors, VFS will host several high-ranking educational and technical sessions on different aspects concerning the exciting future of vertical flight.

European Rotors, jointly organized by the European Helicopter Association (EHA) and the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA), is bringing together major original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) from the industry as well as operators, users, pilots and authorities. Joining forces all together is a key to a successful recovery after the Covid-19 pandemic, which has negatively impacted the rotorcraft industry and stifled its growth.

Dr. Frank Liemandt, show director of European Rotors, says, “We are very excited to be working with the highly respected Vertical Flight Society and look forward to a high-level program. The collaboration with VFS is similar to an accolade for European Rotors.”

David Solar, head of the General Aviation and VTOL Department at EASA, says, “We are glad to welcome the contribution of the Vertical Flight Society to the conference program of European Rotors. Research and technology are a key pillar supporting the development of the VTOL community.”

Mike Hirschberg, executive director of the Vertical Flight Society, comments, “We are very pleased to work with European Rotors. Europe is a leading innovator of advanced rotorcraft and advanced air mobility (AAM). We are very excited to showcase the international progress in revolutionary technologies — such as high-speed rotorcraft and electric VTOL — at European Rotors. ”

The Vertical Flight Society – founded in 1943 as the American Helicopter Society, Inc. – is the world’s leading international technical society for engineers, scientists and others working to advance vertical flight technology. It has more than 6,000 individual and 150 corporate members.

European Rotors VTOL Show and Safety Conference will take place Nov. 16-18, 2021 (Tuesday to Thursday). The venue will be Hall 8 including the Congress Centre North of Koelnmesse in Cologne, Germany. The organizers are in constant contact with the authorities and have set up all necessary precautions and measures to ensure the health and safety of all exhibitors and attendees. Further information, including opening times and prices, is available at www.europeanrotors.eu.

About the event:

European Rotors- The VTOL Show and Safety Conference- is where the entire rotorcraft industry meets to grow its business and discuss rotorcraft safety and sustainability. For the first time, the European Helicopter Association (EHA) and the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) are teaming up to create an exceptional showcase for the European rotorcraft community. European Rotors will be the unique leading platform offering the industry an exhibition where all stakeholders (including OEMs, suppliers and operators) gather to do business and share knowledge. Vertical take-off and landing (VTOL) aircraft of different sizes and with different level of autonomy will also be integrated, as they are an important future technology – either complementary to rotorcraft, or offering new dimensions: for instance, in urban environments.

European Rotors is organized by the European Helicopter Association in cooperation with EASA which will focus on all aviation safety aspects and with the full support of the leading OEMs such as Airbus, Bell, Leonardo and Safran. Messe Friedrichshafen, the organizer of the well-known general aviation show AERO Friedrichshafen, is the service provider for the new show.

The concept consists of a trade show combined with a unique conference program including lectures, workshops and certified training courses. The most prominent one is the integration of the well-established EASA Rotorcraft and VTOL Symposium which aims at enabling better collaboration and mutual understanding to enhance global aviation safety.

European Rotors will be held annually from 2021 onwards.
