Corporate Angel Network (CAN), a national public charity whose sole mission is to arrange free flights for cancer patients to treatment using empty seats on corporate aircraft, announced today that it has flown its 22,000th cancer patient flight.

Kathy Minor had just received a bone marrow transplant at the Mayo Clinic and needed to get home to San Francisco.  “My immune system was so compromised,” said Kathy, “I couldn’t have gotten home any other way.  Surprisingly, my travel concerns were actually more stressful than the transplant.  What a wonderful service.”

CAN staff and volunteers were able to arrange a flight for Kathy with Hormel Foods Corporation, a CAN participating corporation since 1995 that has flown a total of 22 CAN flights.  This was Kathy’s first flight with Corporate Angel Network.

“We are extremely proud of this milestone,” said Peter Fleiss, CAN’s Executive Director. “This accomplishment wouldn’t have been possible if it weren’t for the wonderful generosity of our participating corporations, our volunteers, and all those who have supported us over the past 24 years.”

Corporate Angel Network (www.CorpAngelNetwork.org) arranges free flights for cancer patients using the empty seats on corporate aircraft. Since its founding nearly 25 years ago, Corporate Angel Network has grown to include 530 participating corporations, five paid staff, and a team of 50 part-time volunteers who work with patients, physicians, corporate flight departments, and leading treatment centers to coordinate medical travel needs of cancer patients with the scheduled flight activity of participating corporations. To date, CAN has arranged 22,000 flights and currently provides about 200 patient flights per month. Since its inception, CAN has received numerous awards in recognition of its service to cancer patients, including The Volunteer Action Award, the highest volunteer award from the President of the United States.
