An Airbus Helicopters H175 test aircraft has been based at the International Test Pilots School (ITPS) under an agreement between Airbus and ITPS, conducting natural icing flight trials in southern Ontario, Canada.
Airbus selected ITPS’s modern facility at London International Airport (CYXU) as a base of operations, considering the ideal conditions for in-flight natural icing prevalent in the region from November through to April.
A flight test team from Airbus has been successfully gathering data since November and is expected to continue test operations into 2024.
According to ITPS CEO Giorgio Clementi: “ITPS is more than just a school of flight testing, we are an active flight test centre conducting developmental flight tests on our own fixed- and rotary-wing projects. Our infrastructure to support all types of flight testing is world-class and we have one of the largest teams of flight test experts here in London. We are delighted to be hosting our Airbus colleagues and their impressive helicopter as they conduct these vital flight trials.”
