Global aviation simulation provider CAE will be developing next-generation flight simulation software used to train future pilots to operate Vertical Aerospace’s eVTOL aircraft.
The partnership will see CAE design and develop Vertical’s pilot training program and be the eVTOL company’s exclusive training device provider, tailoring its high-fidelity flight simulation training device for the VX4 aircraft.
CAE said its pilot training program will leverage advanced technology, including mixed reality and artificial intelligence, to “enhance the learning experience and help shift the training paradigm toward cost-effectiveness and scalability.”
“Bringing CAE into our unrivalled ecosystem is a key enabler to solve the training requirement for our customers, as we prepare for the VX4’s entry into service,” said Harry Hold, deputy CEO of Vertical, in a press release.
Along with Vertical, CAE has previously partnered with Joby Aviation, Beta Technologies and Volocopter for eVTOL pilot training. It also has a relationship with Jaunt Air Mobility, and currently provides training products and services to many of Vertical’s prospective customers.

The companies intend to work together on pilot training software three years ahead of Vertical’s plan to launch aerial ridesharing services in the U.K. and Europe. Vertical is expecting to start its test flight program for its full-scale VX4 eVTOL prototype this summer. The VX4 is a piloted four-passenger aircraft targeting a range of more than 100 miles (160 kilometers), and top speeds of more than 200 miles per hour (320 kilometer per hour).
