Sandel Avionics has introduced vibration-resistant versions of its SA4550 Primary Attitude and SN4500 Primary Navigation Displays for helicopter applications, offering rotary-wing aircraft operators an affordable retrofit option for aging electromechanical ADIs and HSIs. These 4-ATI units have the option to be night vision goggle compatible for both military and commercial applications.

Sandel’s patented rear-projection display technology with LED-backlighting is used in both the SA4550 Primary Attitude and SN4500 Primary Navigation displays giving the units maximum sunlight readability, 180-degree viewing angle, bright color renditions and an MTBF of over 10,000 hours. The vibration-resistant versions of the SA4550 and SN4500 are tested to meet the demanding DO-160E helicopter vibration standard. The SA4550 and SN4500 operate independently of each other and an operator can choose to install the units singly or together as a package.

Sandel has mounting adapters available for installing the 4-ATI sized SA4550 and SN4500 into 4×5 inch and 5×5 inch panel openings.

“These units give helicopter operators the latest display technology without the cost and downtime of a complete cockpit panel renovation,” said Gerry Block, Sandel’s CEO. “And we now have ruggedized versions that can withstand the harsh environment imposed on helicopter avionics ,” he added.

Shipments of the high-vibration versions of the SA4550 Primary Attitude and SN4500 Primary Navigation displays will begin immediately at an introductory price of $23,800 each. Sandel Avionics will be demonstrating its products at booth 2441 during the HAI Heli-Expo in Houston, TX, February 24-26, 2008.

Sandel Avionics, located in Vista, California, is a privately held company that provides compact integrated display systems and avionics for general aviation, business aviation, air transport and rotorcraft. Additional information can be found online at www.sandel.com/helos.
