U.S.-based Supernal, the urban air mobility (UAM) division of Hyundai Motor Group, is looking at launching eVTOL air taxi services using its S-A1 aircraft in Miami, Florida, as early as 2028.
The company announced today that it has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the city to create a framework that would look at innovative opportunities to introduce its aircraft in Miami.
This includes working with community, business, and education leaders to learn where the gaps are in existing transportation systems, recommend new policies, and create a roadmap to integrate eVTOL aircraft with the existing transit network.
“Our partnership with the City of Miami is about more than selling electric air vehicles or securing rights to establish operations,” said Diana Cooper, global head of policy and regulation of Supernal, in a press release. “At this stage, our interest is bringing together different public and private sector voices to explore when and how AAM [advanced air mobility] can address the city’s transportation needs and challenges.”
Venture Miami, the group responsible for innovation and technology development in the city, will oversee the partnership and lead working group meetings that would discuss the necessary steps to make AAM a reality in Miami.
Supernal, which launched as Hyundai’s UAM division in January 2020 and rebranded last November, intends to begin certifying its S-A1 eVTOL aircraft in 2024, and launch first commercial flights in 2028.

Supernal is not the only UAM company interested in establishing AAM activities in Florida. eVTOL developers Archer, Lilium, and Eve have also previously announced plans to introduce air taxis in the state.
