Calgary, Alberta, August 11, 2010 Eagle Copters Ltd. (ECL) has announced that it has received Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) certification for it’s single engine conversion of the Bell 212 in the United States.  The conversion takes a commercial Bell 212 and replaces the existing Pratt and Whitney Canada PT-6 Twinpac engine with a single Honeywell T53 engine.  The resulting weight savings, combined with the 11,200 lb gross weight results in a versatile all-commercial Bell medium lifter.

“The Bell 212 is still a very good medium lift helicopter in utility markets around the world, but there are many missions where a second engine is not needed,” said Eagle Copters president and CEO Mike O’Reilly.  “When you remove the Twinpac and replace it with the T53, and the combining gearbox, you not only save weight, but, you also gain extra payload carrying capability, and better fuel efficiency when compared with the 212.”

The Single conversion process takes place at Eagle Copters’ extensive 80,000 square foot facility in Calgary, Alta.  Customers have the choice of replacing the Twinpac with either the Honeywell T53-17A or B engine, or T-53-17BCV.   All wiring is replaced with new wiring as well as old, high-maintenance instrumentation with new modern, reliable and readily available components.
The Eagle Single has already been proving a name for itself in Canada when flying alongside other Bell mediums, like the 205A++ and 212. First certified by Transport Canada in June 2008, the fleet of eight Eagle Singles that are now flying have amassed over 5,000 hours.
The Single is also certified in Chile and Peru. There are several more foreign validations pending at press release time.
