This September, CAE Healthcare hosted the 13th annual CAE Cup at the Air Medical Transport Conference (AMTC) in Nashville, Tenn. The critical care competition gave the stage to 10 air medical teams from across North America who showed off their skills while competing for the prestigious award.
Jeff Thomas and Chad Stoller, both flight nurses and paramedics from the University of Michigan’s Survival Flight, came out on top, defeating STARS Air Ambulance and Cleveland Metro Life Flight which placed second and third.
“This competition is a big thing in our program, so everybody’s watching and critiquing, and to stand up in front of your peers — it’s  tough,” Thomas told Vertical after collecting the winner’s trophy. “It’s not an individual sport, it’s a team sport. The whole University of Michigan stood behind us, cheered us on and supported us, and it’s been very nice.”
