Opening amidst the regal holiday pageantry in Spain’s capital city of Madrid, the third annual European Rotors opened its doors to thousands of attendees and hundreds of exhibitors.

Twenty helicopters are set up throughout the show floor, open Nov. 28 to 30.

Before the ribbon-cutting that opened the show, show officials joined high-ranking Spanish government officials to discuss the state of the European rotorcraft industry and the value of vertical-flight aircraft to society. The Spanish government was represented by D. Hugo Morán, Secretary of State for the Environment of the Ministry of Ecological Transition; Francisco Pardo, Director General of the Police; Mrs. Montserrat Mestres, Director of the State Air Safety Agency; Pablo Cristóbal, Director General of Emergencies for the Community of Madrid.

Featuring global businesses and attendees, European Rotors began yesterday with the annual European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) VTOL Show and Safety Conference. EASA and the European Helicopter Association (EHA) produce the event, coordinated by Helicopter Association International (HAI) and hosted by Spain’s Helicopter Association ATAIRE.

“We know that every person attending the show has a different focus,” said Christian Müller, chair of EHA. “So, we are pleased that we are able to provide an exposition that meets everyone’s needs. First and foremost, this is a venue for business. This is an exciting time to be a part of our industry, and nearly every segment of the vertical flight industry is represented.”

Müller also explained that the show offers safety events such as the EASA symposium, presentations, courses for those seeking industry updates, and opportunities to match up qualified candidates with companies seeking new employees.

“We know what attendees at the first two shows told us they need, and we feel like we’ve done an exceptional job of meeting those requirements,” added Müller. “We have workshops, paid training courses, hands-on demonstrations, technical briefings by the OEMs, and three stages with a robust variety of presentations from leading industry experts.”

The three stages feature silent presentations, where panelists wear microphones and participants wear headsets, allowing exhibitors to conduct business without interrupting loudspeakers in the background.

Each day of the show also features unique themes, allowing organizers to highlight specific industry elements in full or half-day programmes.

“We begin by sharing the exciting work of our host country,” added Müller. “The Spanish Day is a special full-day conference block coordinated by ATAIRE and will include best-practice presentations from some of Spain’s most dynamic aviation companies with a main focus on HEMS, SAR, and firefighting.” This full-day programme will occur on Stage 3.
