Teton County SAR notes ‘monumental’ year in 2025 review

Teton County SAR Press Release | January 15, 2026

Estimated reading time 4 minutes, 8 seconds.

The year 2025 was monumental for Teton County Search-and-Rescue, as documented by its newly released End-of-Year Review & Rescue Report.

With more than 150 calls for service between Dec. 1, 2024, and Nov. 30, 2025, TCSAR responded to more backcountry emergencies than ever.

That figure includes a significant bump in out-of-county missions, where the team was called to assist in searches for missing climbers in the Wind River Range and Big Horn Mountains.

It also included more than 30 heli assists in Grand Teton National Park, where TCSAR’s aviation team partnered with Jenny Lake Rangers to conduct rescues in the heart of the Teton Range.

Those park missions are included in the report, along with all other calls that came into TCSAR starting on June 1, 2025.

The report begins with Cody Lockhart’s final intro letter as chief advisor. Lockhart stepped down as chief advisor on Dec. 31 after serving as the team’s leader for the last eight years.

TCSAR’s Anthony Stevens, previously the team’s training advisor, was elected by the team to take over as chief advisor in 2026.

“As I close this chapter after eight years as chief advisor, my perspective is simple. Rescue work is never about recognition; it’s about readiness, professionalism, and care for others,” Lockhart writes.

“The real measure of success is found in the quiet moments after a mission—when a volunteer drives home exhausted, knowing they gave their best to help someone they’ve never met. That spirit will endure long after my tenure.”

The Rescue Report is published twice yearly by TCSAR Foundation, the nonprofit that supports TCSAR volunteers and provides backcountry safety education and outreach.

The reports are intended to highlight the commitment and dedication of TCSAR volunteers, provide lessons learned from backcountry accidents, and drive awareness for improving backcountry safety.

The 2025 End-of-Year Rescue Report includes the following:

  • Incident recaps from every call that came into TCSAR from June 1 to November 30, 2025.
  • Graphs and stats that reveal backcountry accident trends and demographics.
  • An introduction to the New Volunteer Class of 2025.
  • Photo gallery from the International Commission for Alpine Rescue (ICAR).
  • Backcountry safety education highlights from the last six months.

Rescue Reports are available for free, and can be found at participating businesses all over Jackson Hole. Click here to download the digital version.
