In anticipation of the January 1, 2006 US Forest Service / US Department of Interior requirement that operators install “FAA approved shoulder harnesses integrated with seat belt with one single point metal to metal quick release mechanism for each passenger position,” DART has designed and certified shoulder harness kits that meet regulatory requirements for all passenger seats for the Bell 205/212/214/412 and AB412/AB412EP aircraft. Jeff Shapiro, CEO of Dart Helicopter Services LLC, commented on the value of being able to respond to market needs in a timely fashion, and this is just one of many items which DART has been able to assist the market with.
When asked why DART was making preparations far in advance of the onset of the requirements, General Manager, Bill Beckett replied that customer needs have always formed the basis of DART product innovations, and that the length of time was needed to ensure not only that the kits would meet the necessary contractual requirements but also that the FAA STC would be received. DART has designed the improved Shoulder Harness Kits so that the customers who purchased the original kits that looped over the OEM lap belts can retrofit these original kits to the new requirements. The DART kit is light weight, easy to install, and the new harnesses meet the requirements of TSO C-114. The kit is offered as a 13 man kit, a 5 man fwd facing kit, a 4 man aft facing kit, a 4 man side facing kit, or as required by the customer.
