Today, Romain Petit, general manager of Bureau Veritas Certification France, presented Emeric d’Arcimoles, president and CEO of Turbomeca (SAFRAN Group), with the ISO 14001 registration renewal certificate. It applies to the Turbomeca sites of Bordes and Tarnos in SW France, and Mzires-sur-Seine in the Paris region.
Turbomeca, which is the biggest industrial employer in the Aquitaine region of SW France, has held ISO 14001 certification since July 2003 and extends a caring attitude to its customers, its employees, its neighbours, its partners and the environment.
In the conclusions of the renewal assessment audit, the BVQI experts emphasized three strong points:
- A mature organization that is thriving thanks to the enthusiastic involvement of its personnel and HSE management teams (Health-Safety-Environment).
- Real results in the field such as the efficiency of its waste management and the reduction of its atmospheric emissions. At Bordes site, this has brought a steady rise of 10% a year in waste beneficiation. Not only this, but between 1998 and 2005, the quantities of Volatile Organic Compounds discharged to the atmosphere have been reduced by 75%.
- The careful consideration given to the environmental impacts of the engines at design (lower energy consumption and gas emissions from the engines).
For more than ten years now, Turbomeca has been consenting extensive investment for its industrial plant equipment in support of sustainable development for its activity. The company has deployed an integrated Health-Safety-Environment (HSE) management system, tailored to the multiplicity of its activities and to the multi-site structure of Turbomeca.
To achieve this, the HSE teams have been strengthened with the arrival of discipline specialists (2005 and 2006 recruitment plan), and structured into a multi-skill department (prevention engineers, ergonomists, firefighters, medics and technicians) .
ISO 14001 certification covers the environmental part of the HSE system, with a perimeter that encompasses work and studies directed at reducing the impact of the industrial activities and the engines on the environment.
It represents a formal commitment to continuous progress in protection of the environment (clean technologies, renewed performances in the treatment of industrial effluents, control over energy and consumption of natural resources), undertaken in full compliance with regulations.
The Turbomeca sustainable development policy also is also visible in the Bordes site reconstruction project (EOLE) which is being executed to an HQE (High Environmental Quality) program.
