Joseph Mattern, Founder & Chief Executive Officer of Mattern Aerospace shared: “By utilizing Microsoft Flight Simulator, our design team is now able to place Vertiports in various cities throughout the world, to see how they fit into surrounding landscapes. In addition to using Microsoft Flight Simulator to design Vertiports, there is also a huge advantage in flying aircraft within the simulator to locate new vertiport placement possibilities.”

Mattern added:  “Over the last few days, my team and I have spent some time in Microsoft Flight Simulator flying the Hype Performance Group Airbus H145 over Central Florida, surveying prospective areas for future Vertiport design and placement. My team and I have been able to locate (3) strategic Vertiport sites which will interact extremely well with both the Orlando International Airport and the Orlando Executive Airport.”

“Prior to this new design launch, I have spent the last 14 years working as an eVTOL Researcher  and I currently provide research data to an electric motor manufacturer who through multiple patents, have revolutionized electric motor design.”

Mattern goes on to share how his new business plan came into existence. “One day while flying Microsoft Flight Simulator with friends, I flew in the HPG Airbus H145 over Kearny New Jersey and immediately realized that the HHI Heliport did not exist within Microsoft Flight Simulation Scenery. So I reached out to my best friend Pilot Wayne Smith who has over 300 hours of flight simulation experience in the HPG Airbus H145 and shared my concern and he in turn referred me to an expert scenery builder for Microsoft Flight Simulator. The next thing I knew, Wayne, Richard and I were jointly developing the HHI heliport in Microsoft Flight Simulator and we presented the finished product to Jeff Hyman, the owner of HHI. Jeff joined us on Discord one evening for a virtual flight and he was beyond amazed and impressed with the level of detail that we placed into his 65NJ HHI heliport.

“From that moment, I knew that Richard would be the perfect fit as a designer to assist our team by building Vertiports in Microsoft Flight Simulator.” Now, just two weeks after the launch of its new business model, Mattern Aerospace has grown from 1 to 3 employees. “We turned a hobby that we love into a business and the synergy that we share as a team is nothing short of  amazing. As they say: if you love what you do, you will never work a day in your life.”

Mattern plans to offer Vertiport design within Microsoft Flight Simulator to Vertiport developers and manufactures throughout the world. “As opposed to offering Vertiport designs to customers in the form of simple architectural drawings, our team can send Vertiport developers and manufactures a software file that they can install in Microsoft Flight Simulator for them to demonstrate their Vertiport design to their customers more effectively. Imagine the presentation they could make using Virtual Reality headsets coupled with Microsoft Flight Simulator graphics. As I like to say, a picture is worth 1,000 words, but VR based, 3D flight simulation graphics are the ultimate presentation.”

Mattern recently created a series of four posts on LinkedIn regarding the development of his new business model and he received a great deal of support and kind words. “When experts in this industry complement your new business offering and use words such as impressive and brilliant, you know you have something extremely special.”
