AgustaWestland, a Finmeccanica company, is pleased to announce DRB-HICOM subsidiary Deftech (DRB-Hicom Defense Technologies Sdn Bhd) has been appointed as the Agusta Authorised Service Centre in Malaysia to cover the region. The agreement was signed on December the 7th at the Lima 2005 Airshow, in Langkawi, Malaysia. Deftech will provide maintenance and repair services as well as maintaining a spare parts inventory for a range of AgustaWestland helicopters including the AB139, A109 Power and A109 LOH.

Today a large fleet of AgustaWestland helicopters are currently in service in the Far East region and by the end of next year more than 20 will be in service in Malaysia. With the fleet in the region growing AgustaWestland is committed to expanding its regional customer support services and providing ever improving levels of service to its customers. With the co-operation of AgustaWestland, Deftech has been able to quickly develop its capabilities in the aviation sector. In two modern hangars at Subang international Airport, covering an area of more than 60,000 sq ft, Deftech is now fully operational and providing support to military and civil customers. Several Deftech personnel have already completed training courses in Italy at AgustaWestland’s training centre, enabling them to undertake maintenance and repair services on AgustaWestland helicopters.

This significant partnership project with Deftech reflects AgustaWestland’s policy to raise the skills of local industry to a high level within the aeronautical industry through an effective transfer of technologies and skills. AgustaWestland and Deftech will co-operate for the success of future programmes in Malaysia and at the same time this agreement will benefit existing and future operators of AgustaWestland helicopters in the region.
