STARS (the Alberta Shock Trauma Air Rescue Society) unveiled the Canadian Natural Resources Limited’s logo on a STARS helicopter today in a ceremony to acknowledge a major gift of $500,000 which helped open the Grande Prairie base.

STARS placed the Canadian Natural Resources Limited’s logo on a tail fin of all five helicopters to recognize the company’s support. The contribution was directed toward a Grande Prairie base, which opened on November 1 of last year. Since then, STARS has flown over 80 missions in the Peace Country region. The addition of a third base including Calgary and Edmonton also allows STARS to operate within 94 per cent of Alberta’s population through the chain of survival which include health regions, fire departments and local EMS.

“Canadian Natural Resources Limited’s generous contribution helped make the Grande Prairie base a reality,” says Dr. Greg Powell, President and CEO for STARS. “The Grande Prairie base services an area with significant industry and remote access issues which a helicopter air ambulance is well suited for,” he adds.

STARS is a non-profit, charitable organization providing airborne intensive care to critically ill and injured patients. Emergency medical communications, education and research, and fundraising and community partnerships are significant pillars of the STARS program. Since it began in 1985, STARS has flown approximately 15,000 missions. For more information please visit STARS online at http://www.stars.ca/
