CAMTS celebrates 30 Years, releases 2020 Best Practices

CAMTS Press Release | October 21, 2020

Estimated reading time 2 minutes, 52 seconds.

The Commission on Accreditation of Medical Transport Systems (CAMTS) is celebrating 30 years of improving patient care quality and transport safety. CAMTS was the first in the world to develop comprehensive medical transport standards and an accreditation process for medical transport. Incorporated in 1990 in Pennsylvania, CAMTS published its first edition of standards in 1991.

Over the years, CAMTS expanded the standards and process from rotorwing to fixed wing and ground (now called surface) to include other vehicles such as boats, trains, and snowmobiles. In addition, the standards now include medical escort services and special operations – medical retrieval. CAMTS further expanded in 2015 when CAMTS Global was registered in Switzerland to provide accreditation for services outside of North America (www.camtsglobal.org).

CAMTS’ standards are transparent and created the standard for the industry. The organization and standards are run by a board of industry professionals representing hospitals, medical professionals (doctors, nurses, medical directors) and transportation companies and agencies.  The standards and practices are dynamic, changing through a thorough approval process to reflect changes in the industry and support a constant performance approval process.

CAMTS would like to hear from members of the industry. Individuals and organizations are invited to help the industry celebrate CAMTS’s pearl anniversary by sending their impressions and experiences with CAMTS to admin@camts.org.

Best Practices 2020

CAMTS has collected more than 100 policies and practices from accredited programs to update its best practices 2020 publication. The index for these best practices is located on the CAMTS website along with an order form under Best Practices.
