StartStick, the aviation industry’s first stowable emergency start battery, recently achieved key durability approvals. Aviation Battery Systems LLC (ABS) announced obtaining UN DOT 38.3 certification for StartStick, passing some of today’s most challenging testing and shipping standards.

In addition, ABS announced availability of StartStick globally through a network of trusted aviation equipment providers.

This lightweight, cutting-edge technology provides a redundant power source also rechargeable during flight.  Aircraft can reliably launch after each shutdown, no matter how remote the helispot or airstrip.

UN DOT approval allows global shipping of the portable power solution and highlights ABS’ commitment to providing products with superior design and safety features for the aviation industry.

“With this approval, StartStick demonstrates meeting the highest standards of safety and durability,” says ABS principal Scott Urschel.  “Not only is the unit highly portable, its rugged design stands up to extreme conditions, allowing years of reliability and trusted flight operations in both rotary wing and fixed wing applications.”

As part of its service offering, ABS complies with international shipping standards and provides guidance for efficient global shipping of StartStick.

The company also recently announced teaming with leading helicopter industry companies who will make StartStick available through their parts sales channels, including Hangar One Avionics, Phoenix Heliparts, Rotorcraft Services Group/RSG Aviation, HeliSupport New Zealand, Power Helicoptors Brazil, Eagle Copters South America, Telemeter Europe and Solaire Helicopters Malaysia.

ABS will display StartStick at Booth 244 during the upcoming 2014 Air Medical Transport Conference (AMTC) from Sept. 22-24 in Nashville, Tenn.

“For maximum mission reliability, aircraft should not launch without a StartStick,” adds Urschel. The units also provide convenient temporary power for avionics maintenance on the ramp, avoiding time spent with ground power units.

Whether preparing to leave the scene with a critically injured patient or sitting on an offshore platform’s helipad, StartStick is the ‘Don’t Launch Without It’ component for helicopter and fixed wing operators.
