Airwolf Aerospace LLC is now offering improved protective blade tape for Robinson R22 and R44 helicopters. Lab testing shows that the new blade tape is seven times more durable than the original blade tape.

Airwolf believes pilots should not be afraid to fly in rainy, dusty, or corrosive conditions. Users of Airwolf’s blade tape do not need to repeatedly sand down and paint the leading edges of the blades as the paint wears away or is chipped by rain, insects, dust and salt.

The Airwolf blade tape, STC SR02491CH, was originally launched to address the blade delamination issue. The blade tape prevents delamination by insuring that the bond line is always protected from corrosion.

The blade tape also saves operators money as they do not have to strip, sand and repaint the blades frequently. Some operators report that their blades need to be painted every 100 to 300 hours; stripping and repainting the blades takes about eight hours, so cost adds up over the life of the blades.

Operators have been known to not completely sand down the blades when a touch up is needed. This causes paint build up that can change the chord CG creating tracking and vibration problems. An improper “touch up” paint job also does not offer the required corrosion protection. Chipped paint should never be ignored as it is known to cause vibration and corrosion problems.

Airwolf Aerospace is confident that the new blade tape will be long lasting, and the company is offering a life-of-the-blade guaranty. If the blade tape needs to be replaced before 2,200 hours a replacement kit will be sent out free of charge, except for the shipping costs.

A blade tape kit with a 700-hour guarantee is also available at a lower price point. Airwolf’s blade tape and other products such as TT Straps for Bell 206, 204, 205, 212, UH-1, AH-1 and Enstrom Helicopters are always in stock and as they say are.

  1. What is the cost of both 2200 hr. and 700 hr. paint options and where are they purchased?
