Air Ambulances U.K. has announced the appointment of Mike McGrath as its new chief executive officer.

McGrath will be joining the organization in spring 2026, following a distinguished 14-year career at the NSPCC, where he most recently served as special adviser to the charity’s multi-industry Child Safety Online Taskforce.

With 25 years’ experience across U.K. and international charities, McGrath brings extensive leadership expertise spanning transformation, income growth, innovation and impact.

His career includes senior roles across global development, microfinance, older people’s services, health and education. He is also a Trustee of Prostate Cancer U.K. and an alumnus of Windsor Leadership, Newcastle University, the Open University and the Chartered Institute of Fundraising.

Reflecting on his appointment, McGrath said:
“I am delighted and humbled to be joining Air Ambulances U.K. after such a special experience at the NSPCC. The work of Air Ambulances UK and all the 21 air ambulance charities across the U.K. is incredibly inspiring. I’m especially privileged to be given the opportunity to support and champion so many people who deliver life-saving care every day. I’m really looking forward to working with our chair, Sarah Thewlis, the board, our team and all the staff, volunteers, supporters and partners who make this vital work possible for those we serve.

“I’m very excited to play my part leading Air Ambulances U.K. into its next chapter.”

Sarah Thewlis, chair of trustees at Air Ambulances U.K., welcomed the appointment:

“Mike brings deep experience, strong values and a clear commitment to the charity sector. His background in national leadership roles and his focus on collaboration will be invaluable as Air Ambulances U.K. continues to champion, support and represent air ambulance charities across the U.K. We are delighted to welcome Mike and look forward to working with him as we continue to support the critical work of the air ambulance sector.”

McGrath joins Air Ambulances U.K. at an important moment as the organization continues its role in supporting air ambulance charities in delivering advanced pre-hospital critical care across the U.K.
