“We are very proud of this achievement,” said Randy Nolin, chief technology officer at Ace Aero. “Our EO/IR Sensor Mount was designed with the maintainer in mind and allows for the simple installation of numerous sensors weighing up to 120 pounds. The mount uses an adaptor plate interface that is compatible with multiple sensor models.”

The FAA grants PMA approval in accordance with the Code of Federal Regulations (CFR)14 §21.303, Orders 8110.42 and 8120.22.

About the EO/IR Sensor Mount

The Electro-Optical Infrared (EO/IR) Sensor Mount allows operators of the Black Hawk, the world’s most versatile and capable utility helicopter, to add a nose mounted EO/IR sensor to their fleet of aircraft.

The kit consists of a one-piece machined aluminum alloy nose-mounted replacement fairing, adapter plate, ILS Glide Slope antenna extender and connector panel. The kit was designed to accept the largest 16-inch targeting sensors down to the smaller 8-inch stabilized gimballed sensors. The adapter plate can currently accommodate widely proliferated EO/IR systems from three major manufacturers: FLIR Systems, WESCAM and Trakka Systems.

The Ace Aero HD Sensor Mount accommodates the integrator and installer with a nose-mounted fairing that’s a direct replacement for the existing maintenance fairing under the nose avionics shelf. It is match drilled and designed to remain with the host aircraft. The adapter plate allows for rapid installation and removal of a sensor and facilitates a small rotable pool of sensors to support a larger fleet of aircraft with ease.

The affordable and easy-to-install design is a great value to the Black Hawk community. At a tenth of the cost of some other options, it requires two days to install and provides a huge savings in procurement and labor expenses.
