“I am excited to become part of such a capable peer group and look forward most to spotlighting the noble and important work of our colleagues and community,” said Jana Williams. “I am quite humbled to have been chosen and appreciate the trust to approach a new beginning with deep respect, genuine curiosity, earnest collaboration, and a drive for a brighter future, with an emphasis on “we” and the impacts and challenges we all make and face collectively.”

Jana has more than 30 years of EMS and nursing experience, beginning as a volunteer EMT outside of Chicago, IL in 1984. She has held positions in EMS, Transport, Trauma & Disaster Administration in both for-profit and not-for profit settings. She began her flight nursing career in 1990, at the young age of 24 at Lifeline in Rockford, Illinois where she also served as the Public Information Officer (PIO). Jana went on to serve as the Vice President of Strategic Operations & Partner Development for one of the large operators before branching out on her own as a consultant and coach.

Jana enjoys writing and has been published in Wheels, Wings and Rotors, JEMS, and Nursing Management magazines. She has conducted original and foremost research on ADD in EMS which awaits publication. She is passionate about EMS safety and coined the phrase “Safety is not Proprietary” to harness the power of sharing lessons even across typically competitive lines. She has created and fostered many safety stand-down programs in the industry. Her vision created the air medical transport industry’s first dedicated patient safety role.

Jana is the president of the National EMS Memorial Service, an organization congressionally selected to honor EMS providers from air and ground who die in the line-of-duty. She is a board member of the Association for Professional Flight Chaplains (APFC) that provided emotional, and spiritual support to transport crews and educated professional Flight Chaplains (currently inactive).

She enjoys teaching and is a Regent at the AAMS Medical Transport Leadership Institute (MTLI) where she shares insights on topics such as Program Excellence, Project Management, Business Communications Essentials, and Responder Support. Jana was most humbled to be a Nightingale Award Finalist, a 2012 AAMS President’s Awardee, and a 2022 National Association of Emergency Medical Technicians (NAEMT) Leadership Awardee.

“As chairman of the AAMS board and chair of the search committee, I am thrilled to have someone from our industry to lead AAMS and MFI to success. We were very lucky to receive an abundance of well qualified candidates from a variety of backgrounds for our CEO position,” said René Borghese.

“We opted not to utilize a search firm which opened up the field to a diverse group of candidates. After reviewing resumes, screening and interviewing candidates, the choice to place Jana in the position became resoundingly clear. She is a transformational leader who is committed to the mission of AAMS and MFI, understands the needs of the members, appreciates the benefits of collaboration and brings a wealth of industry knowledge.”

AAMS welcomes Jana to the team!
