As a way to increase public awareness about future eVTOL operations and urban air mobility (UAM), Volocopter is partnering with Singapore’s Institute of Technical Education (ITE) to launch a public exhibition that showcases the eVTOL developer’s two-seat VoloCity eVTOL aircraft.
Located at the Aerospace Hub at ITE College Central, the exhibition will feature a 3D VoloPort scale model, Volocopter’s concept for vertiport ground infrastructure, along with the VoloCity prototype for the public to explore.
Singapore is a significant region for Volocopter for a few reasons. Not only is it one of the eVTOL company’s first launch cities, but Volocopter also conducted a crewed public test flight demonstration with its previous 2X prototype over Singapore’s Marina Bay in 2019.
The company also released a roadmap for UAM services in Singapore, claiming its eVTOL operations could generate about S$4.18 billion (US$3.1 billion) in economic benefits and up to 1,300 jobs in the region by 2030.
“This is the perfect time to showcase our VoloCity in Singapore, as our latest local market survey showed a significant uptick in the proportion of respondents who are excited to try an air taxi service,” said Christian Bauer, chief commercial officer of Volocopter, in a press release.
The two-seat VoloCity multicopter is Volocopter’s first product that it plans to bring to market in time for the 2024 Paris Olympics, after receiving type certification from the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA). The company is also developing a four-seat fixed-wing VoloConnect aircraft, which recently achieved its maiden flight in May.
Starting in August, Volocopter plans to offer free guided tours for the public to experience the VoloCity exhibition.
