Urban-Air Port garners interest from Dymond Group and M7 as new investors

As U.K.-based Urban-Air Port’s (UAP) Air-One vertiport demonstration site makes its debut this week, the infrastructure company has already added new locations to its order book, as well as garnered interest from new investors.

This includes Dymond Group, a Canada-based aerospace, logistics, cybersecurity, and risk management services company, which is eyeing the Air-One vertiport for two locations in Canada.

“We are extremely excited to work with UAP to expand this capability into North America,” said Carl Dymond, founder and CEO of the Dymond Group of Companies, in a press release. “Implementing this infrastructure will provide a foundation stone toward the evolution of intercity and regional transportation in Canada.”

Dymond will join UAP’s board of directors, alongside Ricky Sandhu, founder and executive chair of UAP, and Adam Slepian, global head of partnerships at Supernal, Hyundai Motor Group’s advanced air mobility division.

Dymond Group is also adding its name to UAP’s investor list, and said it will order two Air-One vertiports to deploy in Atlantic Canada first, followed by Western Canada.

In addition to Dymond, UAP also announced an equity investment through its Series A funding round from the founding directors of M7 Real Estate Limited.

The financial backing from Dymond and M7 will help build on the previous seed investment from Supernal.

Backed by the U.K. government and Supernal, UAP’s Air-One operational prototype launched on Monday after just 11 weeks of construction.

Sandhu said from design to fabrication to operation, the Air-One came together in 15 months, “setting the standard for deployment globally and opening up a world of possibilities for rapid response air mobility.”

The company said it plans to redeploy the Air-One in other locations in the U.K. and internationally, providing the public with a glimpse at the blueprint of the vertiport that UAP plans to develop at more than 200 sites around the world over the next five years.

Along with the two sites in Canada, the company said vertiports are already planned in West Midlands and London, U.K., as well as internationally in Los Angeles, U.S., Australia, South Korea, France, Germany, Scandinavia, and South East Asia.

The company said the purpose of the Air-One prototype is to demonstrate how the vertiport can be used for passenger air taxis, autonomous delivery drones, disaster emergency management, and defense operations and logistics.

This includes showcasing aircraft command and control, eVTOL charging, cargo loading for unmanned drones, and flight demonstrations.

UAP said the West Midlands Police and Skyfarer will be among the first to operate flights from the site. Meanwhile, U.K. drone developer Malloy Aeronautics will demonstrate large cargo drone flights.
