Signature Flight Support will be Uber Elevate’s first nationwide operations and on-airport infrastructure partner, the companies announced on June 12 at the Uber Elevate Summit in Washington, D.C.

Signature currently operates the world’s largest fixed base operation (FBO) network, providing refueling, ground handling, and other support to business and general aviation aircraft at around 200 locations across the globe. As an FBO operator for Uber Elevate — Uber’s vision for widespread deployment of eVTOL air taxis — Signature will support infrastructure and operations at the urban skyports where these eVTOL aircraft will pick up and drop off passengers.

In the near term, Signature will also be the ground-based operator of choice for Uber Copter services, which will launch next month in New York City with helicopter flights between Lower Manhattan and Kennedy International Airport. This will allow Uber and Signature to “co-develop industry leading practices around safety and customer experience for urban air mobility,” the companies said.

“Efficient and safe skyports are a critical component of our business model, and our future collaboration with Signature will allow for a seamless rider experience from the moment they arrive at a Skyport, to the moment they depart,” stated Eric Allison, head of Uber Elevate, in a press release announcing the partnership.

Mark Johnstone, group CEO for Signature Flight Support, said the company was “thrilled” to join forces with Uber.

“This is a powerful partnership that will leverage Signature Flight Support’s industry leading scale, distribution, and aviation expertise and marry it with the innovative services and technology leadership of Uber to forge a bold new vision for the future of transportation,” he stated.
