Stanford Medicine Life Flight has acquired a new Airbus H145 D3 helicopter.
The aircraft furthers Life Flight’s legacy as the San Francisco Bay Area’s first helicopter emergency medical service, dating back to its first call on May 1, 1984.
Life Flight serves patients within an approximately 300-mile radius of Stanford, in Northern California, with strokes and aortic dissections among its most common conditions.
About 20 percent of flights are in response to 911 calls, according to the Stanford Medicine News Center.
Life Flight previously operated a BK117 helicopter, and upgraded to an Airbus EC145 C2 in 2007.
The service reportedly transports between 450 and 500 patients a year, with four pilots who rotate in on 12-hour shifts.
