The Cleveland Clinic is expecting delivery of three Airbus H145 helicopters this year, with the first entering service in March 2025, according to local media.
It’s expected the aircraft will replace two Sikorsky S-76 C++ helicopters operated in a partnership with PHI Air Medical Services, per cleveland.com
“This equipment demonstrates Cleveland Clinic’s focus on delivering advanced emergency transport care to residents of Northeast Ohio,” the clinic said in a statement.
PHI provides pilots and maintenance for Cleveland Clinic Critical Transport, whose S-76 helicopters are based out of Burke Lakefront Airport in Cleveland and Wadsworth Municipal Airport in Wadsworth, Ohio, about 20 miles west of Akron.
The clinic unveiled one of the aircraft on social media in mid-February. This H145 D3 features a black underbelly and skids, with the rest of the body covered in a blue and green paint scheme, modelled after the clinic logo.
The five-bladed H145 is quieter during takeoff, approach, and landing, and gives off fewer carbon dioxide emissions, the clinic reportedly said. They also start up faster and can be deployed more quickly.
It’s expected two of the new H145s will be in service at a time, with an additional aircraft serving as backup.
