A fatal helicopter crash in central Alberta has claimed the life of a passenger and critically injured the pilot, according to multiple reports.
The crash in Lacombe County, about 80 miles (130 kilometers) south of Edmonton, resulted in the death of a 54-year-old woman from Benalto, Alberta, per the Calgary Herald.
STARS air ambulance transported the pilot, a 63-year-old man from Lacombe County, to hospital in life-threatening condition.
The accident occurred July 6, “during landing” at Hesper/Safron Residence Heliport, near Red Deer Regional Airport, the Transportation Safety Board of Canada (TSB) said in a social media statement.
Officers were dispatched to the scene at around 12:30 p.m. and remained on site until the TSB arrived. The crash involved a Bell 206L-4 helicopter, officials said, according to CBC News.
