If you're new to electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft, get up to speed with our free guide for investors and everyone else.

As recently as 2020, electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft were almost exclusively the pursuit of deep-pocketed private investors. Most retail investors simply weren’t aware of the progress being made in the space. Even if they were, only a handful of eVTOL companies — notably EHang — were publicly traded, and some of these were highly questionable penny stocks.

eVTOL Basics for Investors
Although electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft hold great promise, investors should understand the challenges facing their widespread commercialization.

This started to change in the first half of 2021, when a number of leading eVTOL developers — including Archer, Joby, Lilium, and Vertical Aerospace — announced plans to combine with special purpose acquisition companies (SPACs) at valuations in the billions of dollars. Suddenly, investing in eVTOL and urban air mobility companies was a prospect open to anyone. But this expanded opportunity also created a vast knowledge gap between retail traders who were brand-new to the space, and savvy investors who had been following it for years.

Produced by eVTOL.com, “eVTOL Basics for Investors” is a free white paper intended to help close this gap. Written for anyone who is new to the concept of advanced air mobility, it provides a high-level overview of what eVTOL aircraft are, why investors are excited about them, and when they’re expected to hit the market. This is followed by a comprehensive overview of the risk factors that could delay or derail their commercialization, including the challenges associated with eVTOL design and certification; infrastructure and operational risks; and the looming question of public acceptance.

Although “eVTOL Basics for Investors” was developed primarily as a resource for retail traders, it also serves as a clear, easy-to-understand introduction to eVTOL aircraft for anyone who is simply curious about them, or looking to get involved with this emerging industry. Engineers, pilots, maintenance technicians, aircraft operators, and lessors all have a role to play in bringing eVTOL aircraft into commercial service, and city leaders and planners will be instrumental in deciding how they fit into our communities.

  1. Thank you for sharing.
This detailed check list is excellent. I like the evaluation per main categories of risk.
I have developed also some questions that seems consistent with what you propose:
Maturity of the technologies used and realism of the concept of operation
Experience and expertise of the team in particular in relation with aircraft certification
Situation of the program vis-a-vis certification
Testing, simulation, analyse performed to validate performances and assumptions
Capability in-house or via partnership to achieve mass production
    Partnerships signed with other organisations.
    Funding already obtained
    Existence of customers
    Best regards.
