Chief Helicopter Mechanic

Manatee County Mosquito Control District located in Palmetto FL is seeking a Chief Mechanic to oversee the maintenance of two (2) Bell 407 helicopters and one (1) MD500 helicopter. The Flight Department employs 3 FT pilots and is part of a program employing 26 individuals. The District is located immediately south of Tampa Bay along the coast of the Florida Gulf of Mexico. The District serves the entire Manatee County of approximately 400,000 residents. The District is very funded and managed. The District management ensures that employee morale remains very high at all times. Drama and inter-personal conflict is virtually non-existent at the District. Employee turn-over is very low at the District; this position is open due to retirement. Description of Occupational Work ndash; AIRCRAFT MECHANIC
The position of Aircraft Mechanic in the Manatee County Mosquito Control District is responsible for the maintenance and repair of one Hughes 500D and two Bell 407 helicopters which are used to provide airborne surveillance and spray operations in the control of mosquito populations in the County. This position is responsible for performing related duties as required.
Essential Functions

Performs routine inspections and servicing of aircraft, airframes and powerplants and related pesticide application systemsPerforms non-routine troubleshooting and repair of aircraft systems, to include pesticide application systemsOperate an auxiliary power cart for aircraft starting operationsMay be required to operate equipment, such as a fork lift, aircraft tug or crane to facilitate loading, maintenance or repair operationsMay be involved in the design, fabrication, installation and testing of pesticide application systemsFly in District aircraft for the purpose of test flightsPerform painting operations of aircraft and componentsFabricate custom tooling for special jobsMay be required to perform basic welding operationsPerform overhaul functions on aircraft componentsResponsible for wearing the appropriate Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) as needed for specific tasks being performedFollow all Districts Safety policies and procedures and to comply with the applicable local, state and federal regulationsMay be required to keep revisions current for various technical manualsMay be involved in the loading of pesticide and in the calibration of a variety of the application systemsResponsible for ensuring all assigned equipment and tools are maintained and repaired as neededAssists with maintaining and keeping work areas in a functionally clean and orderly mannerOther duties and projects as assigned.
