Heath Moffat - Vertical Magazine - Helicopter Photography

Heath Moffatt

From an early age I've had a keen interest in aviation and its history: at the age of eight I was imagining dogfights in the homemade aircraft models I built, which dangled from the ceiling in my room.

During my teen years photography enticed me also. After completing high school I studied photography full-time for three years at Canada's prestigious Dawson Institute of Photography in Montreal.

Now, as a full-time commercial photographer, always on the lookout for just the right light and dynamic angle of the aircraft, I'm ready to capture images that will make the viewer exclaim "Wow!" - just as I did when I was a kid. I thrive on the planning and execution of aerial ballets with fixed-wing and helicopter pilots, striving to capture the most dynamic shots.

My aviation images can be found in aviation museums, magazines, calendars and book shops. I've also had the unique honor of being the official photographer of the Pearl Harbor Survivors Association, commemorating the 60th anniversary of the attack on Pearl Harbor; have photographed the flight deck of the Spruce Goose; and have also photographed the complete aviation collection at The Museum of Flight in Seattle, Wash.

My career has given me the opportunity to travel as far as Australia, among other continents, shooting off-shore oil rigs, search and rescue operations and a myriad of other subject matter such as cruise ships, submarines and ferries, architecture, food, corporate executives, hotels, athletes and fashion models. But, my greatest pride is in photographing aircraft and the exceptional breed of people who work in the aviation industry.

My gear is stowed in Victoria, B.C., Canada. My portfolio can be viewed online at www.heathmoffattphoto.com.
